Mandatory Road Signs are like orders that every user of road and related services has to comply with. Failure to obey mandatory signs can have dangerous results and it may cause harm of life and property. Disobeying Mandatory Signs is considered violation of traffic rules and offenders may be punished. Type and quantum of punishment will depend upon the rule that has been violated and harm it may have caused.
Mandator Signs can be further divided into two categories.
Directional Road Signs
These signs provide direction to people to take a certain action as mentioned on the sign. Directional signs have circular shape. They have blue coloured background with a symbol drawn in white colour.
Turn Left
Take a left turn after seeing this sign. Probably there is a traffic diversion here.
Turn Right
Take a left turn after seeing this sign. Probably there is a traffic diversion here.
Keep Left
Drive in left lane for smooth flow of the traffic. Generally this sign is installed on the roads that do not have divider and two way traffic flows on same road.
Keep Right
Drive in right lane for smooth flow of the traffic. Generally this sign is installed on the roads when there is a traffic diversion.
Turn Left Ahead
Take a left turn ahead. Generally this sign is installed where left lane of the road will end and driver has to take a mandatory left turn. If available, move to right lane to go ahead.
Turn Right Ahead
Take a right turn ahead. Generally this sign is installed where right lane of the road will end and driver has to take a mandatory right turn. If available, move to left lane to go ahead.
Proceed Straight Ahead
Go straight ahead. Turns into all other directions are not allowed.
Cycle Track
Some streets or a lane of the road is reserved for only Cycles. This sign tells us that no other type of vehicle should use this street or the lane of the road.
Prohibitory Road Signs
