Is medical fitness form mandatory for Learner Licence?

All applicants of Learning License Applicants should be fit to drive a vehicle. They have to declare Physical Fitness in Form 1 and attach proof of Medical Fitness in form 1A.

What should I do if I have submitted wrong information in my application?

Since it is not possible to edit the application after submission, you have to cancel the application and apply again. However, fees if paid will not be refunded.

What are the restrictions with a Learner Driving Licence?

There are 3 rules which you must follow if you are holding a Learner Licence.

  1. You must paint or paste “L” sign on your vehicle’s both sides – Back and Front.
  2. While driving another person holding permanent licence must accompany you.
  3. You cannot carry any other person or passenger with you except your instructor.

What happens if I fail to appear for the Learner Licence Test?

You have to take the appointment again for Licence test.

What should I do if I fail the Learner Licence Test?

You have to pay the fee for the test again and take another appointment.

What to do if I fail a driving road test?

If you fail the driving test, you may apply again for re-test after 7 days.

Can I apply for a Driving Licence after my Learner Licence has expired ?

No. You have to apply for the Driving Licence before your Learner Licence expires. If the Learner Licence is expired then you have to get the Learner Licence again.


Is Learner Driving Licence valid outside my state?

Learner Driving Licence is valid throughout Bharat.

What is the validity of a Learner License?

The validity of Learner Licence is 6 months.

What is the validity of the Driving Licence?

  • If the driving licence is issued/renewed to drive a transport class of vehicle then the licence is effective for a period of 5 years from the date of issue or renewal.

  • In the case of any other driving licence i.e. contains only non-transport class of vehicle(s), validity shall be as follows: If the person obtaining the licence :-

    1. Has not attained the age of 30 years on the date of issue or renewal thereof be effective until the date on which such persons attain the age of 40 years.
      OR

    2. Has attained the age of 30 years, but has not attained the age of 50 years on the date of issue or renewal thereof be effective for a period of 10 years from the date of such issue or renewal.
      OR

    3. Has attained the age of 50 years but has not attained the age of 55 years on the date of issue or renewal thereof be effective until the date on which such person attains the age of 60 years.
      OR

    4. Has attained the age of 55 years on the date of issue or as the case may be, renewal thereof be effective for a period of 5 years from the date of such issue or renewal.

What is the validity of endorsement to drive vehicles carrying hazardous goods?

Three years.

What is the procedure if I forget to renew my driving licence?

If you have forgotten to renew your license, you can still apply for the new one within 5 years from the date of expiration. You need to pay penalty charges for that.

However, you must know that driving a vehicle with an expired license is an offense.
